ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how the Japanese students learn about local delicacies, to find out what foods the local area is known for, and what local foods are most delicious. The students should ask their Language partners (LP) about when people generally buy omiyage, and who they buy it for. They ask how they decide how much money to spend and find out what kind of food people who visit the local area typically buy for omiyage. The students should discuss differences between the food culture (e.g., types of food, etiquette, etc.) of Japan and their home country. The students can find out which Japanese foods and which local foods is the LP's favorite and find out what foods are commonly eaten in Japan. The chapter discusses how students go out with friends and shows their interest in the local community by eating out in the nearby restaurants.
