ABSTRACT
W ILLIAM KENRicK's pronouncing dictionary of I773l reveals some very interesting and significant material about what he assumed to be the Received Standard Pronunciation of his day, particularly with reference to initial aspiration both before vowels and w, the interchange of a before r and vocalic r ([3]), and the diphthong represented in spelling by oi but sometimes pronounced [UI] as well as [:)1].
