ABSTRACT

Everything here in Hexham is taken over from Rider-Holyoke, even down to simple reference items such as Bad. Sometimes Hexham will add a definition to such an item for the convenience of his users (e.g. 'a Baiting place, Een peyster-plaetse. Siet Inne'); sometimes (as with a Badger) he substitutes a definition; once, where he finds Band ... Vide To binde, he inserts a separate entry for to Binde entirely out of alphabetical sequence. In general, however, he takes over the rather extensive system of references in his original: there are eleven instances in the first hundred entries under B.
