OurknowledgeofAnglo-Saxoncultureandlearninglargelydependsonthe survivingmanuscriptsknowntohavebeenwrittenorownedinearly England;theirclosestudyremainsarewardingsubject.Amongthem,books containinggrammaticaltreatisesandglossarymaterialsareofparticular interestastheyyieldvaluableinsightsintothestudyandteachingoflanguage inthisperiod.'InthepresentarticleIproposetoeditanddiscussaglossary ofliterary,grammatical,andmetricalterms,preservedinMSBLHarley 3826-intowhichitwascopiedataboutthetimewhenJElfricwrotehis Grammar-andhithertoalmostcompletelyignoredbyAnglo-Saxonists.I havechosenthetitle'Grammarian'sGlossary'inviewofthenatureand rangeofRomanandmedievalgrammar,andofthecloselinksbetweenthis disciplineandpoetics,rhetoric,andprosody.
