ABSTRACT
Before turning to the matter of environmental ethics, it is necessary to determine what Zen Buddhism has to say about ethics in general. And this would seem a particularly important issue to address, for there are reasons for thinking that Zen is singularly hostile to the whole business of morality. 1 I will call the general charge that Zen rejects morality the charge of amorality? This chapter is my response to it.
