ABSTRACT

Keep a small notebook in which to jot down ideas about your project as you go along. The things you write can be the kind of‘life, the universe and everything’ ideas which jump at you in the middle of the night, or more prosaic bits and pieces such as a new search keyword to try or the molecular weight of the particular hydrate of sodium dihydrogen phosphate you need for your buffer. You can make a note of potential connections between ideas that you might want to think more deeply about later on or interesting but peripheral observations made during your work which don’t seem to fit within the formal record-keeping process.
