ABSTRACT
The discussion in Chapter 3 about the ‘rule of law’ and Vietnamese politicallegal ideology assessed legal transferability from a reified perspective. Ideology comprehends law as a depersonalised ‘thing’ or ‘it’. This approach is useful in comparing broad state and societal ideals (or aspirations), but conceals power structures and organisational practices shaping the formulation and implementation of law.
