ABSTRACT

For some individuals, it is difficult to perceive that digital out-of-home entertainment is anything more than just a grand way to describe the black box with flashing lights that has come to epitomize arcade machines. While the heyday of the video-amusement arcade may have passed, video amusement is still a worthwhile business. Video-amusement’s popularity in Japan has allowed corporations such as SEGA and NAMCO to generate significant revenue. Even some of the smaller companies such as Taito and Capcom have proved successful. While many may argue that this is unique to Japan, the video-amusement business still finds a place in the West in mixed machine placements, as mentioned earlier.
