The Longevity of Wartime Discourses and Identities. The Case of Britain and Europe

A truism about propaganda, in the current usage of the word, is that it is generally created and succumbed to by someone else, normally foreign, and/or of a different ideological colour, for example, 'the Germans' in the Nazi period, 'communists' in the 'Cold War' period. We perceive ourselves as independent-minded enough to see through it. It could not work here.
