ABSTRACT

The nightmare will prevail as long as there is no more powerful dream to counteract it, and envisaging such a dream as a real, liveable, eventually attractive process takes us to the point where critical analysis and diagnosis evolve into signposts for socio-cultural change and emancipatory activity. Radical criticism always, and rightly, provokes the challenge: 'What would you do about the mass media? What robust and realistic practices would you wish to see adopted to replace the present ones which you are rejecting?' Answers are far from fully developed, but start to run as follows.
