ABSTRACT
This reconstituted text is hypothesised to approximate the common ancestor of all existing Mahbhrata manuscript traditions.2 and by noting that interpolations tend to appear in specific groups of manuscripts, the critical editors were able to hypothesise the development of the manuscript tradition in the intervening centuries. This development is presented, roughly, as in Figure 1.1 (Sukthankar 1933:xxx).3
