Dictionary definitions of ‘reflection’ aren’t very helpful here, as the word is used in education in a specific way. Many courses include reflective activities (also called ‘evaluations’ or ‘self evaluations’ or ‘self assessments’) and reflection is a key aspect of Personal/Professional Development Planning (see Chapter 18). This is because, over recent years, a view of how people learn has developed that sees ‘reflection’ as absolutely key to learning.
