ABSTRACT
As I have set out elsewhere (Foskett, A. C , 1996), a classification scheme consists of four parts: schedules; notation; index; and organization. If we are to consider the future of faceted classification, we must consider each scheme within each of these four constraints, to see whether it has the ability to remain viable into the future, or whether we can take any steps which will guide it into the right direction.
