ABSTRACT

Working in the here and now requires acute awareness of what is happening at any given moment, listening to what people don't say and not being distracted by our own internal thoughts and opinions. Being in the here and now is not always easy. We will get triggered by what other people say and do, we will sometimes get tired, our attention will wander and things from outside will sometimes distract us. But the more attention we can give to what is happening in the here and now the better. When this occurs, it is essential that the facilitator can be authentic and present, can notice what is happening in the here and now and can stay with it. Facilitators need to have worked on their own self-development, experienced process and understood how, by staying in the here and now, and they can build self-awareness and create the conditions for changes in behaviour.
