ABSTRACT

This chapter contains some general guidance about putting a Workshop together using the Tools and the approaches described in this Kit. It then describes five real-life occasions when one of the authors used the Tools to good and useful effect. The 'client' is probably the manager or supervisor of the group who will be attending the Workshop. Generally speaking, a Workshop will follow a series of phases or stages. These will vary according to circumstances, for example, there is no need for introductions if everyone knows each other already. Stage-management is an important element both in the design of a Workshop and in the running of it by the facilitator. At its simplest level, it means designing the session with a balanced variety of the Tools. Symbols are important. Messages can be sent to participants by all kinds of unspoken signs, and a wise facilitator will consider and manage these just as much as the main design.
