ABSTRACT

Difficult people fall into certain types. This chapter provides common varieties and some suggested ways to deal with them. Do not confront the chronic Latecomer in front of the group, instead, wait and afterwards simply ask them why they are always so late. They may not think the session is very important, do not believe it will start on time, or simply try to schedule too much. The Headshaker disagrees in a dramatic and disruptive manner. They shake heads, roll eyes, slam books shut, or madly scribble notes after someone has said something. This can disrupt things just as effectively as words. The Loudmouth dominates the conversations and seems impossible to shut up. They are a common breed, gravitating naturally to Workshops and meetings of all kinds. Often they are senior people or crucial decision-makers, which can make control of them hard for the facilitator.
