ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter we explained how understanding consumers, appreciating how they live and the experiences that are meaningful to them and involving them in the processes of design, are essential. We have also seen how designers need to work with other specialists in marketing, ethnographic research and engineering to gain and apply this understanding. So, if people are fundamental to design, then communication becomes an integral part of the design process, and a key skill for designers.
