ABSTRACT
Sometimes children have a disease which is called the mother, and is in manner a species of the falling sickness,3 and sore troubleth the children whilst they suck.4 Signs of this disease are those: often crying; startling in the sleep; unsleepiness; vehement heat; and stinking of the breath. And this passion cometh many times by unperfect digestion, when the child hath received more milk than it can well away withal.5 Therefore when ye will remedy this, first let the nurse’s milk be amended and rectified, that it be the better to digest. Then also give to the infant every day half a scruple of diamuscum or diapliris. For the same also is triacle with milk very sovereign.6
