ABSTRACT

Our belief systems are so ingrained by the time we are adults, our parent messages so firmly embedded, that it can seem sometimes as if we have no right to change, to look after ourselves and our needs. We may not believe this on an intellectual level, but the unwanted behaviour nevertheless continues as if it were outside our control. Social workers, who are well aware of their clients' rights and how to fight for them, may overlook their own rights because most of them are not part of any policy or legislation. They often take more care of their clients' rights than they do of themselves.
