ABSTRACT
Very few studies have examined what actually happens in the academic presentation. This chapter initially looks at the academic seminar as an instance of monologic talk, by focussing on previous non-CA research into monologues, speeches, public oratory, public lectures, as well as academic lectures. It then turns its attention to the macro-structure of the academic seminar and, in particular, the computer science seminar.
