ABSTRACT

Communication is the oil for the machinery. Or to select another metaphor, it is the power train linking the engine to the drive wheels.

Probably the most heard complaint in any organization is that ‘our communications are poor’. Ask any group of employees and you will almost invariably get the same answer, ‘Our communications are in need of improvement’. This is not surprising if we consider the complexity of the pattern of communications in organizations. Effective communication is necessary at and between every level in an organization, between its constituent parts and with the many groups which comprise the external environment.
