ABSTRACT
In reality, though, 'Tantra,' in both Western and South Asian contexts, is a highly problematic category. In this chapter, I sketch some of the complexities, and ask whether there is nevertheless something behind the label that may be useful for the critique and reconstruction of gender and of power in personal relationships within contemporary Western societies.
