ABSTRACT

The injuries that are going to occur through a ditching will be numerous and potentially very serious. There will be the injuries sustained from the impact - these could be anything from cuts and bruises to broken bones, bums, crush and whiplash injuries, and there will be the injuries and complaints sustained later on from the effects of the water and the cold. These could include drowning and near-drowning, hypothermia, frost bite, heatstroke and sun bum in hot climates, sores from sustained time in the raft and psychological problems from the nature of the situation. Sickness and shock will also be prevalent.
