ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an examination of contemporary surfing culture, from the 1990s through the first decade of the twenty-first century, with an analytic focus on the nature of the subculture and its relationship with the parent/dominant/ mainstream culture. It discusses surfer types, significant sites, mythology, and current trends.
