ABSTRACT

Perhaps it should not be seen as strange for a town which once hanged a monkey as a French spy to have a monkey1 as Mayor and to be concerned about ghost ships. This story, a twenty-first century Rime of the Ancient Mariner, confounds many issues of morality: of instrumental performance, social and environmental justice and relational responsibility, folded together, rhizomically embracing the ‘local’ and the ‘global’.
