ABSTRACT

The term 'event' is used specifically in sport, for example in the programme for athletics. Other type of events like an art exhibition or a music festival might be part of a tour or seasonal programme. Theatre productions, opera or ballet performances may be defined as events or may be normal business operations for a specialist entertainment company. The participants, performers, hosts, venue could all be different, so making each event unique in some way. Fundraising or charity events can be defined as one-off events for project management purposes, even if they are repeated as annual events. The main characteristic is that of a fixed time being set to stage an event well ahead of time, where delays in project delivery just cannot happen. Risk attributes are likely to be quite context-specific for events compared to other project types, so there will be significant variation at the detailed level.
