ABSTRACT
The work itself appears to have been written during the reign of Michael VH Doukas (73.18, 73.25), and after the death of the patriarch John Xiphilinos in August 1075 (7213); the bulk of the stories date from the period 1034-1054.2 The only mention of events later than 1054 is in the story of Nikoulitzas Delphinas (66.19-73.26). Much of the scholarly attention paid to this text has come from historians, concerned to learn from such narratives.
