ABSTRACT

The ability to recruit staff successfully is one of the essential skills that a manager needs. The starting point for successful recruitment and selection is a relevant and up-to-date job description and person specification. Group selection methods and the interview are oral exercises, and although written summaries and assessments might be made, the applicants and selectors acquire their information by listening and observing. As successful recruitment is dependent upon attracting applicants of sufficiently high calibre, the information which a potential applicant receives needs to convey a positive impression. Recruitment is a vital way of ensuring that the workforce is ready and able to manage such change. Recruitment agencies can often provide suitable applicants in a short space of time. This ensures that the rigour of the recruitment process is applied equally to all posts. The reason for carrying out recruitment and selection is, to find someone who most closely matches the requirements of the vacant post.
