ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews some lessons learnt along the way by Six Sigma experts, HR managers and consultants, through both Six Sigma and HR transformation projects. Six Sigma projects demand a diverse set of scientific and softer skills, mindsets and personality types. Using the diversity ensures that the HR team will be able to manage the project and apply the rigorous statistical tools needed while at the same time generate innovative solutions and manage the people side of process improvement successfully. To create effective teams, a training programme on the methodology and tools of Six Sigma is usually not enough. Making sure that new Six Sigma belts are mentored by an expert such as a master black belt will increase the value their projects contribute to the organisation. To make sure organisations get the most value out of technology during Six Sigma projects, an HRIT expert should be included in the team as a subject matter expert.
