ABSTRACT

Simulation modelling is a flexible tool and is capable of analysing most aspects of an organisation. Therefore to ensure the maximum value is gained from using the technique it is necessary to define the areas of the organisation that are key to overall performance and select feasible options for the technique in these areas. This ensures that although simulation may be being used to measure performance at an operational level, the area of usage is based on the strategic needs of the organisation. The first section in this chapter describes the balanced scorecard as a method of linking strategic objectives with operational change.
