ABSTRACT
Considering sources of reliable knowledge, most people nowadays hold science in high esteem. Upon ethics many would pass a less favourable verdict. Ethics says nothing about the world 'out there'; it does not deal with facts but only with things that ought to be; its principles are a matter of opinion rather than knowledge. Derogatory views such as subjectivism, relativism, and scepticism in ethics itself strengthen this attitude among outsiders.
