ABSTRACT
The previous chapters have concentrated on three projects in which Cromek’s participation largely took the form of promotion: The Grave, The Canterbury Pilgrims, and the scheme of the Chalcographic Society. This chapter and the following one will delineate two literary projects in which Cromek acted primarily as editor-but not to the exclusion of his promotional activities. These two projects culminated in the publication of three works, all collections of Scottish literature, all published by Cadell and Davies, and all initiated and edited by Cromek: Reliques of Burns (1808), Select Scot[t]ish Song (1810), and Remains of Nithsdale and Galloway Song (1810).
