ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the dimensions of leadership competences associated with the integrated model. It describes each of the three clusters – managerial, intellectual and emotional leadership competences – and their 15 underlying components. The cluster of managerial competences consists of five dimensions: managing resources, engaging communication, empowering, developing, and achieving. The intellectual competence cluster addresses the cognitive and rational side of leadership. Intelligence has always been perceived as a trait of successful leaders. Within the triad of managerial, intellectual and emotional competences the managerial competences address the basic leadership behaviour. The cluster of emotional competences addresses the interpersonal and social dimensions of leadership. The chapter provides the managerial competences, which are the bedrock of leadership. It describes the intellectual and emotional clusters. The managerial leadership dimensions of competence resemble the most traditional understanding of management, which is, guiding and controlling people for the effective achievement of objectives.
