ABSTRACT

Managers seem to be managers the world over. Guessing what type of attitudes are present in the management commitment meeting to shift the safety focus and event learning effort is not difficult. In this particular conference room, we had 9 managers. Each of those managers represented a different organization function for this organization. Each manager, although all employed by (or, in this case, owners of) this organization, had different incentives and understandings of what was necessary to the organization. These managers shared the common greater goal, but not necessarily the daily operational goals. That difference was noticeable in the approach these managers took to the new ideas.
