ABSTRACT

The focus of this article is the expansion of the Norwegian-controlled printingpaper producer Norske Skog. It was founded in central Norway in 1962 and today is headquartered just outside Oslo. The development of Norske Skog is a story of ambitious forest owners and managers, national and international rivalry, willingness to take risks and capacity to learn. Expansión has been at the top of the agenda since the start-up of the first newsprint machine in 1967 until today with 23 mills in 13 countries on five continents. It is also a history of setbacks with economic losses and lack of resources to develop all the businesses that have been part of the firm.
