ABSTRACT
Incidents of violence in the workplace are very often considered to be occasions when communication of any 'normal' sort has broken down. However, it is important to remember that the violent person is, or started out by, trying to communicate. The reason that communication has broken down may not be solely that an individual is prone to violence; it may be a result of all sorts of messages they, and others in the situation, are picking up.
