ABSTRACT

The shock of the 11 September 2001 terrorist suicide attacks on the World Trade Towers in New York and the Pentagon put the United States and global aviation to a severe test. The US government declared war on terrorism and triggered a host of security regulations aimed at preventing similar attacks. According to statistics (BTS, 2002) security concerns, which dominate government agendas, continue to affect economies and behaviour, especially as it relates to air travel.
