Thischaptersetsouttoexaminewhathappensinaircrafthijackingsinterms ofthebehaviourofthepassengersandcrew.Agreatdealhasbeenwritten aboutterrorismandasmaller,butnotinsubstantialamount,writtenonhostagetakingingeneral.However,fewhavefocusedspecificallyonaircraft hijackings.Nevertheless,muchcanbegleanedfromresearchonhostagetakingingeneral.Wilson(2002)providesageneraloverviewofthe contributionsmadebypsychologicalresearchtounderstandingterrorist hostage-taking.However,thepresentchapteraddressesthehostages'response toincidentsofhijacking,inparticularthedifferentparties'reactions,from compliancethroughtovariousformsofpassiveandactiveresistance.
