Around this time, an Englishman arrived in Hamburg and began to serve tea as well as coffee. A Dutchman followed him, and as a result tea and coffee drinking became quite common, so that anybody with the money to pay for it began to drink it, and it henceforth offered an occasion for many gatherings.1
