ABSTRACT

National Air Traffic Services (NATS) is responsible for the planning and provision of air traffic services in United Kingdom (UK) airspace and (by international agreement) over part of the north Atlantic. NATS manages the UK’s two flight information regions (FIRs), operates five air traffic control centers, and provides air traffic services at fifteen major UK airports. The Scottish FIR is the largest in Europe, and the London center is one of the busiest in the world. NATS handles 2.3 million flights annually; this traffic carries more than 220 million passengers.
