ABSTRACT

Our survey identified over 20 ʻ green ʼintentional communities in New Zealand today. These people have chosen to live together because they share a concern about environmental issues and/or ethics. They want to live in a way that expresses this concern and to protect, conserve and live closely with the nonhuman world. Many communities in New Zealand are shades of green. What marks this group as distinct is that ecology is their main reason for being. The group includes eco-villages, rural communes and communal organic farms as well as communities who develop the spiritual aspect of ecologism, deep ecology.
