ABSTRACT
On 28 November 1660, 12 men met in Gresham College in London, and listened to a lecture. This was followed by a discussion in which the decisions were taken that have come to be accepted as marking the foundation of the Royal Society, though the name only came with the issue of a royal charter in 1662.
