ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book starts with effective practice in learning, and shows how technology can support that good practice. It also shows the ways in which online and mobile technologies can be used for study and gives some guidance on how best to use them for learning in higher education, whether that is at college or university, or within workplace. The book provides some basic advice on the bottom line: the skills and equipment one need to get organised. It discusses Listening, reading and sense-making, in other words the processes which one go through when he/she are grappling with course content. The book describes the ways in which one communicate with a group, together with guidelines on communicating appropriately using a variety of tools. It illustrates ways in which various tools are used for preparing oral and written assignments and offering guidelines for good practice.
