ABSTRACT

Many online and mobile tools can help one to listen, read and make sense of course material, while offering some extra flexibility in study routines. This chapter focuses on effective approaches to the study of core course content with the help of online and mobile technologies. It starts with 'making sense' of course material, because after all that is the central purpose of studying. One might imagine that reading course texts or listening to a lecture will be fairly passive activities in which one focus their attention on soaking up new information presented by the writer or lecturer. A good sense-making approach is to develop our understanding by writing about it. Taking notes is probably the most common method: that involves jotting down key points which act as a reference point from which one can seek further information or share their ideas with others.
