ABSTRACT

While communicating with groups of people is an important part of everyday life, it is not necessarily obvious how to do this appropriately for study. This chapter provides a survival guide on effective ways to communicate as part of a student group in college or university using online or mobile technologies. It gives some guidelines for text-based communication using a variety of tools. Very often there is a choice of tools which can serve a particular purpose and our choice will depend on what is in use by our tutors and fellow students, what is readily available, as well as which tools one feel most comfortable and confident with. The chapter explains that blogs are generally used for publishing a monologue rather than for a conversation with others. It describes good practice in communicating within a community of students.
