ABSTRACT

A competitive trading game, 'Commodities Trade' highlights the core value of negotiation as a trade. Before playing 'Commodities Trade' it is a good idea to discuss with the participants the basic principles of trading behaviour and the conditional proposition and to check that they have understood these principles. Parties who trade things that they value less for things that they value more will do better in the medium to longer term as negotiators than those who rely on the mistakes of trading partners or on other means of manipulation to gain short-term profits. The total number of trades required between different people will be set by the trainer and is usually determined by the number of pairs present in the workshop. When the trading session ends, note profit from each price using the profit schedule and add these to find the aggregate profit gained for all the trades.
