Dance and Narrative

The narrative arts (katari no geinō) made an inestimable contribution to all three of Japan’s major dramatic forms of nō, bunraku and kabuki. Any study of the katarimono tradition from heike to jōruri cannot bypass these dramatic theatrical forms.
