The play exists in a single hand-written manuscript (Add. MS 53224. A) in the Lord Chamberlain’s collection of plays in the British Library. The Lord Chamberlain’s Licence No. is 181, and the licence ticket reads: ‘Name of Play: “Jane Eyre” Drama 3 acts / Theatre Adelphi Oldham/ Date of Licence October 13 1879’; the Lord Chamberlain’s Daybook has no additional information except ‘date of Licence Oct 13 Date of Entry Oct 14’. The title page bears the words ‘F. Percival Esq, 14 Dover Street, Piccadilly’.
