ABSTRACT
The text exists in a single hand-written copy in the Lord Chamberlain’s Collection of Plays in the British Library (Add. MS 53285 E). Figure 20 shows the title page of the manuscript. The licence number is 265 and the licence ticket reads: ‘Name of Play: “Jane Eyre” Drama; Theatre: Globe; Date of Licence: Decr. 18th 1882’. The Lord Chamberlain’s Day Book has no additional information except ‘Date of Licence 18 Dec Date of Entry 19 Dec’.
