ABSTRACT
Introduction This chapter is concerned with the range of organisations and associations which provide the context and the focus for social work activity at crossnational and international level. It describes the origins and roles of organisations which are not extensively analysed in the social work literature, but which have a significant bearing on either the socio-economic circumstances of the subjects of social welfare provision, the form in which such provision is made, or the opportunities for social workers of international employment or association.
